At the beginning of the internship, I am filled with lots of emotions. Between excitement of testing new skills, worry of completing all requirements, and anxiety of making sure I am committing myself to the internship while trying to wrap up a school year. I feel that the ideas that I have compiled will meet all of the requirements but look forward to piecing together all of the components.

Beginning this internship, I recognize that I have grown so much in the time that I have been in the Harrisburg University program. While I know that I have grown through the classes, this internship will challenge me and require me to practice what I have learned. Throughout the years in the program, I have worked with a fellow team member to start a Tech Talk that occurs each Friday. This extension of taking what I learned while in Harrisburg University classes, and applying the skills provided great experience. I look forward to capitalizing further through opportunities afforded in the internship.

With the weeks before the official start of the internship, I was able to complete a variety of tasks, including the contract, some professional development with my fellow teachers, and district-wide work. While those only amounted in a handful of hours, it is comforting to know that I was able to accomplish some work ahead of the official beginning of the internship. I do not believe many hours will be dedicated to the internship in the next week with wrapping up many of the requirements of the school year.

During this week, I was again not as progressive in the requirements, nor do I have the feeling that I will be until the school year is out. I was able to hold a tech session focusing on Google Forms. It was inspiring to hear the conversations of teachers attending the training and how they were brainstorming the uses of Google Forms. Between Formal and informal assessments, communication with parents, and project selection tools, I was able to spark some interest in the simplicity and effectiveness of the product. I feel like when trainings run smoothly similarly to this, it happens to be quite rewarding.

At this point, beyond the basics requirements of tech requests, tech minutes, and general assistance to other teachers and staff, not much additional progress has been made towards the internship hours. We had new computers distributed to the teachers this week and while I did not help configure the transfer of computers, I had helped in the ordering and worked in troubleshooting and making sure the computers were up and running appropriately. It was nice to see a project begin and end, impressively in under 6 weeks of work.

After talking with Michelle, on this day, it makes me feel better about progress that I have made along the way for the internship. While I have not accomplished too many of the requirements, having plans lined up and starting to place artifacts helps to put the amount of work into perspective. While I would not say that I still feel that I have progressed quite yet with my skills, I also know that I have not started any of my projects that would push me to think deeper and expand my skills.

While I do feel like I am in acceptable shape, with the school year ending (5 school days left!) I can start to make the internship requirements my priority. It will feel good to have time to focus and start tackling these requirements over the summer months.

During this week, I determined the major focus of my summer internship. I was looking for a LMS and instructional tool that I could use and share with staff to get the most out of the technology. I prepared resources and provided the options that we had to complete the project goal. It was interesting to act as a vendor of sort for a variety of tools, sharing the pros and cons, and working as a team to select a resource. In the end, I was given approval to get a district wide subscription to Symbaloo. I will create a general page, school specific pages, and additional department pages. Researching and making a professional suggestion was an interesting process which I truly enjoyed.

With this being the last week of school, not much more progress was made on the internship requirements. I did spend some time to teach out to my advisors to prepare for the different elements of the internship. The completion of this week was an exciting milestone in order to start accomplishing more requirements in this internship.

This was the most successful week so far in the internship. The beginning of the week was spent working on general technology work. At Pequea Valley, we held a technology professional development workshop. At the beginning of the week, I helped the technology department set up and test all of the necessary equipment for the workshop. In addition to setting up, I worked throughout the 2 days providing training sessions and being on call for any issues that occur.

This week allowed me to test many of the aspects learned through the LTMS program. I was required to problem solve the issues to project presentations with the Apple TV's and making sure each session was able to connect effectively. I taught 3 training sessions which ranged from Technology Saftety, Ipad Apps, and Assistive Technology. It was interesting to see the response to the training presentation and materials from the variety of backgrounds in attendance.

This week was the only week I was able to take off. I took a vacation to Montana, Wyoming and Colorado. I was able to take many pictures and created a blog site that I used to document the different events along the trip. With being a 4th grade teacher, the chance to reach out to the western states (which we end up teaching) will allow me to pull direct resources when teaching them next year while also displaying technology based journaling through blogs.

This week was a great feeling for me. For the first time since I started the internship, I felt like I was able to accomplish a lot of work directed at the goal of completing the internship requirements. I was able to meet with all members of the internship and outline how to complete the tasks required. I was also able to go through all of the requirements and identify what I have already completed that would be applicable to the portfolio. While there is plenty still to accomplish, I am finally feeling like I am able to approach this internship with full focus and dedication.

This week was the most educationally valuable and technology backend focused so far. It was really neat this week to be included in learning how to set up an image, reimage computers, identify the naming conventions, and install permissions among other things. Being able to piece together the components of a school infrastructure tied in well with what I had learned through participation in multiple classes. This training made the understanding how everything worked much stronger while also allowing me to work more efficiently for the IT tech team. While I feel like I need to spend more time working on Professional development based projects, I am encouraged by making progress on the general technology hours over the last few days.

This week was the first week where I felt that I had made a significant impact in my professional development hours. While I had hoped to have it arranged earlier in the summer, this was the first time that all of my internship supervisors were at work at the same time. I was able to meet with them and outline the different projects we would work on. Included in this process was pitching the ideas that I thought would be beneficial for the school district. After meeting with the district representatives, I was given the go-ahead to subscribe, with the district willing to purchase the license and administer the tool district wide. This was an empowering moment, in which it was encouraging that the work I presented to the admin was appreciated and deemed worthwhile purchasing. While it did take a good deal of preparation, including research and demo pages, when walking away knowing that the district liked your contribution, it is very satisfying. Now that I have the approval for many of my projects, the completion of the professional development hours will improve.

Over this past week, I took an additional graduate class which did not allow for much time on the internship work. I did manage to meet with the technology staff to plan a training for both the district Title Tutors/Special Education Aids and New Teachers (2 seperate sessions). I will be the event coordinator for the day, introducing presenters along with presenting on Google Apps for Education and iMovie.

Journal 13-8/4
Over this past week, I was able to plan for, and and participate in a training for the the Paraprofessionals and Title tutors. I helped the staff members by providing instruction on Google Apps for Education and assisting during the other professional development sessions. I also was stationed at a tech help session for any of the participants to come over and visit when they were experiencing a technology need. Since this staff demographic often does not receive high quality instruction typically, even with a few issues getting the presentations started, they were eager to participate throughout the entire day.

Over this past week, I planned my final project for the internship. I plan to create screencast tutorials for all of the non-apple based apps that Pequea Valley is purchasing for every student iPad. These apps include Dropbox, Educreations, Doodle Buddy, and Apps Gone Free. I spent time over this past week reviewing each app, getting oriented with the app features, and writing scripts for the screencasts. The internship is coming to a close soon and I feel like I have met many of the different internship qualifications at this point. In addition, I also participated in a similar professional development session for the new teachers to the district. I taught GAFE and helped throughout the professional develop when questions/issues arose.

Journal 15- 8/18
Over this past week, I was able to complete the rest of my hours in my internship. I created screencast tutorials for the the Pequea Valley Foundational Apps. After multiple retakes on each and every app review, I finally was able to publish 4-8 minute video tutorials on every app that will be included on the student iPads. Not only do I feel glad to reach the point of hour completions, but I feel like these screencasts will allow students and teachers to get more familiar with the base set of applications we at PV are putting on every student iPad.
